The Coastal Fire Centre is rescinding campfire (Category 1) and backyard burning (Category 2) prohibitions in all areas within its jurisdiction on Sept. 25 at noon.

Other activities which were previously prohibited, but will now be permitted within the Coastal Fire Centre again include:

  • The use of sky lanterns
  • The use of wood-fired hot tubs, wood-fired pizza ovens and other wood-fired devices, unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building.
  • Binary exploding targets.
  • Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC.
  • Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description.
  • Controlled air incinerators.

Category 3 open fires remain prohibited in all Forest Districts of the Coastal Fire Centre other than the North Island Central Coast Forest District and Haida Gwaii Forest District – this includes industrial burning, and the use of air curtain burners and carbonizers.

The restrictions will remain in place until noon on Oct. 31, or until the order is rescinded.

Fire Hall Metal Bin

The metal bin at the fire hall is for METAL ONLY — with one exception: appliances are accepted, even though they may contain other materials.

Please DO NOT leave:

  • Household garbage

  • Organics or yard waste

These items cost the hall money to remove — funds that could be better spent on keeping our volunteers and community safe.

The proceeds from metal recycling help us:

  • Replace worn equipment

  • Purchase safety gear

  • Maintain our readiness for emergencies

Your support keeps us strong. Thank you for respecting the guidelines!

Yard waste can be dropped off free of charge at a CVRD Recycling Centre.
